Thrum knitting is a time-honored tradition of knitting unspun wool inside knits to create natural insulation. The ends of the fleece are like soft pillows and cuddly warm.
We use our own mountain merino wool and hand-dye. The pattern instructs how to take wisps of the fleece and knit it into the mittens and booties. It is all packaged in an organza bag.
The kit is available in blue or pink. You can add the thrum hat kit to your order to create a whole set.

The Baby Thrum Booties/Mittens and Hat patterns were designed by Appalachian Baby Design.
We were introduced to this delightful company at a trade show and their designs show the dedication they have in producing beautiful heirloom baby gifts. While most of their patterns use a lovely cotton yarn we collaborated to create a few special wool creations. Wool requires a bit more care than cotton, you have to handwash, but it is a wonderfully warm material for a baby. It regulates temperature exceptionally well.
This is a lovely quote from Appalachian Baby “Our yarn is intended to be used for a slow and easy meditation where individual efforts make a difference, and it is used to express the great joy of a new baby entering our world.”
